The Associate Degree of Science in Computing and Information Technology
This programme is accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).
Students are eligible to apply for Grant/Loan through the Financial Assistance Scheme provided by the Hong Kong Government (please refer to www.sfaa.gov.hk).

The programme will focus on preparation in leadership, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills in addition to computer science knowledge. The computer science and information technology are the major areas of study which include database management, software development, computer animation and multimedia design, information systems, mobility application design, networking security as well as internet commerce. Graduates should be able:
- To give students a thorough grounding in the computing and information technology aspects of various disciplines.
- To provide a sound and rigorous conceptual framework on which students can build.
- To encourage students to reach independent conclusions, to evaluate their validity and to implement them.
- To encourage students to think creatively but logically and to communicate their ideas coherently and confidently.
- To become competent in modern communication techniques.
- To provide students with an overview of the social, economic and professional environment in which they will take their place.
- To make the learning experience both challenging and enjoyable for students and lecturers.
- To develop problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- To develop themselves academically through self-motivation.

As computing and IT personnel are found not only in IT services related firms, but also in other business establishments and public organizations, the projection of IT manpower covers different economic sectors.
This programme is basically designed on the computing and application development in order to fit different area.
Computer Science includes the database management and administration which emphasize the existing and new techniques of database management skills. |

- Full-time:
- 3 years (including Foundation year), 2 semesters/year.
- Part-time:
- - Only applicable to Year 1 and Year 2.
- - Duration of study depends on the number of subjects taken in each trimester; 3 trimester per year.

Advanced standing is the recognition which may be granted to enrolled students for other study at an appropriate institution in an area relevant to the current programme. It is considered on individual basis and subject to approval by the Institute.
For Form 5 graduates, the Associate Degree programme requires 3 years of study namely the Foundation year, the 1st
year and 2nd year.
Generally speaking, students with the following qualifications can be admitted to the 2nd year (final year) of the
programme:
- Completion of the 1st year of an Associate Degree in the same/related areas; or
- Completion of a recognized Diploma programme; or
- Equivalent of the above qualifications.

Students are required to successfully complete 27 units (or subjects) drawn from 4 categories:
i. 7 General Education Subjects,
ii. 11 Core Subjects,
iii. 4 Concentrate Subjects, and
iv. 5 Elective Subjects.
