The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is a research based management programme.  This degree is designed for experienced professionals who would like to improve their professional practice and solve problems through research.

According to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities released in January 2010, Southern Cross University ranked 1442 among the top 8000 universities in the world.

  • The Southern Cross DBA programme is among the largest in Australia in terms of overall candidates and graduates.
  • The completion rate of students in the Programme is higher than in most of the other DBA and PhD programmes in Australia.
  • It is one of the oldest, biggest and most successful DBA programmes among Australian universities.

  • Part-time: 3.5 years to 6 years
  • The academic year for DBA is based on both trimesters and enrolment periods (EP).  There are three trimesters each calendar year or two EPS.
  • A trimester is 15 weeks and comprises 10-12 weeks teaching and applied to stages one and two of the programme.  Students can normally complete these 2 stages within 5 trimesters.
  • An EP of six months runs from either 1 January to 30 June (EP1) or 1 July to 31 December (EP2) and applies to stage three of the programme (thesis stage).  Students can complete the 16 thesis units at their own pace but subject to a minimum of 3 EPs (1 ½   years) and a maximum of 8 EPs (4 years).

Advance standing is the recognition which may be granted to enrolled students for other study at an appropriate institution (normally completed within the last ten years) or experience at a professional level in an area relevant to the current programme.

The DBA programme requires the successful completion of a total of 24 units (or subjects) consisting of the following:

  • Stage 1 - 4 Business Administration Units
  • Stage 2 - 4 Research Units
  • Stage 3 - 16 Thesis Units
