HKIT is a non-profit making institution with a heart in offering tertiary education programmes to non-Chinese students in Hong Kong. It started with the first non-Chinese student Shazia, who at the end successfully completed the bachelor's degree at HKIT and proceeded to study at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
The reason that non-Chinese students are joining HKIT is not only because HKIT is the only institution in Hong Kong offering Australian degrees that are locally accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, giving the students the entitlement for Government grant and low interest loan, which means that students with financial difficulties could study the full degree without paying any tuition fee at all. A further reason is because the full programme is all taught in English, so the students can gain fully from the Australia programme while studying in Hong Kong.
The non-Chinese group of students in the institution is mixing well with local students, with some of them even offering tuition to local students to improve their English.
