Programme Feature

Higher Diploma in Business Administration (HDBA) is a comprehensive and broad-based business programme that focuses on integrating academic theories with real-life applications in the commercial world.

The first year of study provides students with an integrated view of various generic and business functions in the commercial environment.

In the second year, students will then take up a specialized study theme for a more in-depth training in the different areas in business studies. Study themes include:

 

Programme Objective

This programme is designed to:

provide students with a broad-based education in business administration, with specialties in accounting and finance, management and international business. Students will be provided with a solid foundation of knowledge including that in management, economics and finance. Students opting for the Accounting and Finance Stream will be equipped with knowledge in law, taxation, financial accounting and management accounting, while those studying in the Management Stream will learn the different aspects of management theories and concepts and their applications in various scenarios. Those taking the international business Stream will be equipped with knowledge in the domains of international business (with a focus on Asia Pacific region).

Graduation Requirements

Completion and obtained Pass or above in 16 required subjects.

Remarks: Qualified applicants may be exempted from up to 8 modules, which will be decided on a case-by-case basis. (e.g. exemption of maximum 8 modules for Higher Diploma; and exemption of maximum 4 modules for Certificate)

 

Advanced standing

Enrolled students who have prior qualifications from other institution may apply credit transfer or course exemption. Each application will be considered individually.

Professional Recognition

Graduates of Accounting Streams on completion of required modules are eligible for exemption from:

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for up to a maximum of 5 papers in the Professional Examinations;

Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) for up to a maximum of 3 papers at the Associate Level ;

The tuition fee is charged on subject basis with HKD $7,000 per subject, total of 16 subjects are to be studied.

Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP)

FASP provides means-tested financial assistance to needy full-time students pursuing locally-accredited, self-financing post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to needy students so that no eligible students will be denied access to post-secondary education because of lack of means.

Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS)

The Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS) is to complement the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) to provide loans to eligible students to settle tuition fees of locally-accredited, self-financing full-time programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree.

Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS)

To support the development of the self-financing post-secondary sector, the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) has been established under the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund. This scheme offers scholarships and awards to students enrolled in full-time locally-accredited self-financing sub-degree or bachelor's degree (including top-up degree) programmes at non-profit-making educational institutions.

2+1 Top Up Articulation

HKIT Higher Diploma Graduates may proceed to study the one-year top-up degree programmes of University of West London or Wrexham University, awarded university in the UK.

The degree programmes offered by HKIT are recognized by the Hong Kong government. Students who are eligible for the “Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong” (NMTSS) will be provided with an annual subsidy up to HK$34390 in the 2024/25 academic year.

Year 1 Entry

General Entrance Requirements:

HKDSE applicants
  • Level 2 or above in English Language; and
  • Level 2 or above in Chinese Language; and
  • Level 2 or above in other three subjects(see Remarks below)

 

Remarks:

  • Attained in Applied Learning subjects will be considered as attainment of Level 2
  • Each applicant is allowed to use not more than two Applied Learning subjects in the application.
  • Non-local students with the equivalent qualifications are also considered.

 

HKALE applicants
  • Passed in 1 AL subject, or 2 AS subjects
  • Grade E or above in at least 5 HKCEE subjects included Chinese Language and English Language(Syllabus B)

 

Other qualifications
  • Graduate of Foundation year; or
  • Graduate of recognised certificate / diploma; or
