Programme Feature

Higher Diploma in Computing (HDC) is a dynamic and professional programme that focuses on combining the theoretical and the practical aspects in the field of computing.

The first year of study provides students with an integrated view of various generic and technique skills which are vital to the development of students’ capabilities of learning specific knowledge in their upcoming studies.

In the second year, students will then take up a specialized study theme for a more in-depth training in the different areas in computing:

After the successful completion of the programme, students will 100% articulate to the final year of the honour degree (Top-up degree programme).

 

Programme Objective

This programme introduces fundamental knowledge and skills in different areas of IT. Graduates of the Higher Diploma programme can serve as sub-professional staff of the specialty. They are also capable of becoming IT professionals through further study or professional training plus work experience. The modules introduce basic computing, programming, web development, networking and information security knowledge and skills. Graduates of the programme are competence for the following posts: junior officers of networking and information security, junior programmer, web and mobile application developer.

Graduation Requirements

Completion and obtained Pass or above in 16 required subjects (Additional modules may be required for students who is going to articulate to the BSc (Hons) Cyber Security top-up degree. )

Remarks:
Qualified applicants may be exempted from up to 8 modules, which will be decided on a case-by-case basis. (e.g. exemption of maximum 8 modules for Higher Diploma; and exemption of maximum 4 modules for Certificate)

 

Advanced standing

Enrolled students who have prior qualifications from other institution may apply credit transfer or course exemption. Each application will be considered individually.

Part Time

The tuition fee is charged on subject basis with HKD $7,000 per subject, total of 16 subjects are to be studied.

Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP)

FASP provides means-tested financial assistance to needy full-time students pursuing locally-accredited, self-financing post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to needy students so that no eligible students will be denied access to post-secondary education because of lack of means.

The Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS)

The NLSPS is used to complement the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) to provide loan(s) to eligible students to settle tuition fees of locally-accredited, self-financing full-time post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree

Self-financing post-secondary scholarship scheme (SPSS)

To promote the development of the self-financing post-secondary sector, the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) is set up under the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund to offer scholarships and awards to students pursuing full-time locally-accredited self-financing sub-degree or bachelor's degree (including top-up degree) programmes at non-profit-making education institutions.

2+1 Top Up Articulation

HKIT Higher Diploma Graduates may proceed to study the one-year top-up degree programmes of University of West London or Wrexham University, awarded university in the UK.

The degree programmes offered by HKIT are recognized by the Hong Kong government. Students who are eligible for the “Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong” (NMTSS) will be provided with an annual subsidy up to HK$34390 in the 2024/25 academic year.

General Entrance Requirements:

HKDSE applicants
  • Level 2 or above in English Language; and
  • Level 2 or above in Chinese Language; and
  • Level 2 or above in other three subjects(see Remarks below)

 

Remarks:

  • Attained in Applied Learning subjects will be considered as attainment of Level 2
  • Each applicant is allowed to use not more than two Applied Learning subjects in the application.
  • Non-local students with the equivalent qualifications are also considered.

  • Passed in 1 AL subject, or 2 AS subjects
  • Grade E or above in at least 5 HKCEE subjects included Chinese Language and English Language(Syllabus B)
