Programme Feature

The Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering has been developed in response to projected manpower shortages in electrical and mechanical disciplines identified by the Labour and Welfare Bureau of the HKSAR Government. It is designed to increase the supply of trained electrical practitioners to support Hong Kong’s development as an International Innovation and Technology Centre and to meet the rising demand for electrical and mechanical services in sectors such as real estate operations, building services, and construction.

In Year 1, students develop fundamental language and communication skills in English and Chinese, and learn professional ethics relevant to engineering practice. They study core technical subjects including electrical engineering principles, circuit analysis, engineering mathematics, and energy and power, while also gaining essential knowledge of occupational safety and site supervision.

In Year 2, students progress to more advanced topics such as analogue and digital electronics, electrical installations, transformers and electrical machines, artificial intelligence, database systems, and CAD and BIM. They also undertake engineering projects and practical electrical training to consolidate their skills and prepare for employment or further study.

Programme Objective

Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering aims to equip students with the essential professional knowledge and practical skills including electrical principles, design and supervisory skills, software and tools to pursue careers as practitioners in electrical engineering and related fields to provide manpower supply to meet the above said shortage. The programme will also provide students with the necessary knowledge on occupational safety for working in electrical industry and allow them to understand relevant statutory requirements and standards.
