Practitioners in law enforcement, finance, insurance, banking or information technology.

 

 

Programme Feature

 

The MSc Criminal Investigation programme is intended for practitioners who want to advance their career by acquiring the skills to conduct an investigation from beginning to end. Students of this course come from a wide range of backgrounds from practitioners in the fields of law enforcement, finance, information technology, health and safety, social services and many other sectors. Fresh graduates who intend to work in this field are also eligible to apply this MSc programme.

 

A particular strength of the programme is its inter-disciplinary nature, incorporating the knowledge of staff with practical experience of investigation, law and research whilst offering a strong academic base. The programme has a clear focus that merges theory and practice, and emphasizes the importance of relevant legislation, policies and practices, linking them to the overall theme of exploring criminal investigation.

 

Teaching staff have long-standing experience of a practical nature within the criminal justice system, and a highly developed level of expertise in the legal field. This enables the programme offered to be relevant to those working or hoping to work within the field of criminal investigation.

Duration of Study

The Programme comprises a total of five modules with four 30-credit modules and a dissertation module of 60 credits. Students must achieve 180 credits to gain the master’s degree.

 

The Programme is offered in full-time and part-time modes:

1Year Full-time and 2 Years Part-time.

 

There will be two intakes each year, in September and February.

Entry Requirement

  • A recognised degree in a relevant field with at least a second-class honours or a minimum grade-point average of 2.5 or B-; or

     

  • A combination of relevant professional qualifications and relevant working experience equivalent to a recognised honours degree in a relevant field, which will be assessed by Teesside University as per its policy on accreditation of prior experiential learning; or

     

  • Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will be considered for entry on to the program following submission of a strong academic reference, and a 2000-word essay on a criminal investigation topic.
